Flowers, Brannan named Bulldogs of the Week

PERKINSTON — Dawson Flowers and Sarah Brannan have been named Bulldogs of the Week for March 22-28.

Flowers, a freshman right-hander from Brookhaven, threw a no-hitter in a 10-0 win over East Mississippi. He struck out seven in a game shortened to five innings by the run rule.

Brannan, a sophomore right fielder from Enterprise, slugged three home runs in a pair of Mississippi Gulf Coast wins at East Mississippi, the No. 2 Bulldogs' only games of the week. She had 2 home runs and 3 RBI in an 8-2 win in the first game and added another in a 15-0 win in Game 2. She didn't have a collegiate home run until nine days prior, and now has four in five games.

Alex McWhorter, a freshman from Mobile, slugged two home runs to help power Gulf Coast to a sweep of East Central. He went 3-for-3 in a five-RBI performance in a 10-0 win in the second game. McWhorter had two walks in the first game, a 6-3 win, and reached base six of seven plate appearances in the Bulldogs' only games of the week.

Abby Vance, a freshman right-hander from Calhoun City, threw a three-hitter in a 15-0 victory for No. 2 Mississippi Gulf Coast at East Mississippi. She struck out three in a game shortened to five innings by the run rule.

Matt Wilkinson, a freshman from Madison Central, finished second at the rain-shortened Meridian Spring Invitational to help lead No. 2 Mississippi Gulf Coast to another tournament title. He shot 1-over 72.

Clay Fudge, a freshman from Madison, picked up two points for the 13th-ranked men's tennis team in a 5-4 win over Co-Lin to stay unbeaten in league play. He also pushed an international player from Jacksonville College to three sets in a non-conference loss.

Aniya Saddler, a freshman guard from Columbus, had eight points and 10 rebounds in a 56-54 loss to Meridian.
