Avant, Whittaker named Bulldogs of the Week
PERKINSTON — Anna Avant and Alwayne Whittaker have been named Bulldogs of the Week for May 10-16.
Avant, a sophomore right-hander from Water Valley, pitched 6.2 innings of three-hit, shutout ball to beat host LSU Eunice on the opening day of the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament. She had a 2.95 ERA in three appearances in the tourney, helping the Bulldogs reach the NJCAA Division II Championship.
Whittaker, a freshman midfielder from Biloxi, had a goal and an assist in a 31-second span of No. 7 Gulf Coast's 2-1 last-minute win over No. 11 Pearl River. The victory clinched the MACCC South title for the Bulldogs.

Skyler Steede, a sophomore keeper from Lucedale, made an astounding 22 saves in a 1-0-1 week that clinched second place in the MACCC South for the Bulldogs. She stopped all 10 shots in a 3-0 shutout at Southwest Mississippi, and then had 12 saves, including a series of point-blank stops, in a 1-1 tie against Pearl River.
Alyssa Parisi, a freshman midfielder from Diamondhead, had a goal and two assists in her only game of the week, a 3-0 win at Southwest.
Whitley Tanner, a freshman second baseman from Hurley, batted .421 with two RBI for the Bulldogs. Gulf Coast went 3-2 in the Region 23 Tournament in Eunice, La.
Isaiah Gore, a sophomore from Laurel, stopped five of six shots in No. 7 Mississippi Gulf Coast's 2-1 win over No. 11 Pearl River to clinch the MACCC title. He also split time in a 3-0 shutout at Southwest.
