Jones, Cary named Bulldogs of the Week 

PERKINSTON — Kristian Jones and Josh Cary have been named Bulldogs of the Week for March 15-21.

Jones, a freshman designated hitter/third baseman from Southaven, batted .692 with three homers and 10 RBI in an unbeaten week for No. 2 Gulf Coast. She had two home runs, including the go-ahead grand slam, in a comeback 19-18 win over East Central where she drove in six. She went 3-for-4 in a 7-6 victory in Game 2. Jones had a homer and three RBI in a 14-0 win over Coahoma, then went 2-for-2 in a 13-3 win.

Cary, a freshman from Petal, had a six-hit day during a sweep of Coahoma to run his hitting streak to 18 games. He went 4-for-4 with a double, a triple and four runs scored in an 8-0 win, then went 2-for-3 with two more runs scored in a 10-3 victory. He had hits in both losses to No. 19 East Central. He's reached base in all 20 games for the Bulldogs.

Also nominated:

Antoine Harris, a freshman right-hander from Chalmette, La, threw a three-hit shutout in an 8-0 win over Coahoma. He struck out eight and walked just one on just 85 pitches in a game shortened by the run-rule.

Abby Vance, a freshman right-hander from Calhoun City, picked up a pair of wins for No. 2 Gulf Coast. She beat East Central by striking out nine and allowing five earned runs. Vance also went the distance in a 13-3 win over Coahoma, striking out six with just one walk.

Sharisse Bridges, a freshman forward from Jackson, had 14 points and three rebounds in a loss to No. 1 Jones. She made both her 3-point attempts.

Melvion Flanagan, a freshman guard from Alexandria, La., had a double-double for Gulf Coast in a loss at East Central. He had 23 points and 11 rebounds in an 87-80 defeat, and played 77 of 80 minutes for the Bulldogs.
