Flanagan, Laughlin named Bulldogs of the Week

PERKINSTON — Melvion Flanagan and Alexis Laughlin have been named Bulldogs of the Week for Feb. 1-7.

Flanagan, a freshman guard from Alexandria, La., averaged 23.5 points in a 1-1 week for Gulf Coast. He had 21 points and 7 assists in a narrow 77-76 loss at Copiah-Lincoln, then had a 26-point outburst in a 76-54 win over Baton Rouge.

Laughlin, a sophomore center fielder from East Central, batted .714 and had a walk-off single in a 10-9 over Northwest Florida during a 1-1 week for No. 2 Mississippi Gulf Coast. Her infield hit won the opener 10-9, and she had a double among three hits. She went 2-for-3 in a 12-4 loss in Game 2. 

Also nominated:

Luke Welborn, a freshman first baseman from Locust Grove, Ga., went 3-for-5 in the season-opening doubleheader against Pearl River. He had a home run and three RBI.

Beverly Tillman, a freshman from Laurel, exploded for 24 points in a 69-54 win over Delgado for Gulf Coast's first victory of the season. She made 10 of 13 shots from the field, including 4-of-6 from the 3-point arc.

Krissy Georgieva, a sophomore from Sutton, England, won all six of her matches in three tennis victories. She won twice at No. 1 singles and once at No. 2, plus all three No. 1 doubles matches with Ally Bowen. 

Clay Fudge, a freshman from Madison Central, won all six of his matches in three Gulf Coast tennis victories. He won two No. 5 singles matches and one at No. 3 while dropping only two games and all three No. 2 doubles matches with Pedro Molero.
