Coates, Fudge named Bulldogs of the Week

PERKINSTON — Emaleigh Coates and Clay Fudge have been named Bulldogs of the Week for April 12-18.

Coates, a freshman right-hander from Lucedale, allowed only seven hits in 13 innings of work for No. 2 Gulf Coast. She threw a one-hitter to beat Holmes 4-1 and allowed only two earned runs in a 3-2 loss at No. 3 Itawamba. 

Fudge, a freshman from Madison, won all four of his matches to help lead No. 13 Gulf Coast to the NJCAA Region 23 championship. He also won twice against No. 13 Jones in the final regular-season match to clinch a perfect MACCC record and a state title. Fudge earned All-MACCC honors.

Also nominated:

Ethan Coleman, a freshman designated hitter from Lucedale, had the go-ahead homer for his second blast in an 8-6 win over No. 12 Itawamba. He batted .500 for the week with three RBI.

Rakeya Travis, a sophomore shortstop from Poplarville, had a home run and four RBI while batting .545 last week for No. 2 Gulf Coast. 

Krissy Georgieva, a sophomore from Sutton, England, earned All-MACCC honors and helped lead No. 13 Gulf Coast to conference and Region 23 runner-up finishes.

Alyssa Palisi, a freshman forward from Diamondhead, had two goals for Gulf Coast in a 4-0 win over Meridian in the MACCC South opener. 

Chance Forbes, a sophomore right-hander from Columbia, earned the win in an 8-6 win over No. 12 Itawamba with 2.2 innings of middle-relief work that kept the Bulldogs in the game.
