Smith named MGCCC Student-Athlete of the Week

PERKINSTON — Mike Smith has been named MGCCC Student-Athlete of the Week for Oct. 5-11.

Smith, a sophomore linebacker from Flora, piled up 16 total tackles and had a 41-yard pick-6 in leading Gulf Coast to a 31-24 win over Hinds. Smith's fourth-quarter interception gave Gulf Coast as 24-17 lead. He also forced a fumble and had a tackle for loss.

Also nominated: 

Deondre House, a sophomore running back from Senatobia, ran 24 times for 146 yards and three touchdowns in Gulf Coast's 31-24 overtime win against Hinds. His broke out of a pile on a fourth-and-inches to score a 41-yard touchdown that tied the score at 17 in the fourth quarter, and his 1-yard plunge in OT won it for the Bulldogs.

Caden Davis, a sophomore from Pearl, handled all kicking duties for Gulf Coast flawlessly in a 31-24 overtime win over Hinds. He made a 35-yard field, all four PATS and averaged 38.5 yards on eight punts.
