Thomas, Jones named Bulldogs of the Week

PERKINSTON — Tucker Thomas and Kristian Jones have been named Bulldogs of the Week for March 1-7.

Thomas, a sophomore catcher from Biloxi, batted .545 with two home runs as Gulf Coast went 3-1 against two top-10 teams. He went 4-for-7 in a doubleheader sweep of No. 4 Northwest Mississippi, hitting home runs in each of the 9-5 and 4-3 wins. He had a double and a single in a 5-4 win over No. 9 Hinds earlier in the week.

Jones, a freshman designated hitter from DeSoto Central, batted .667 with two home runs, three doubles and 10 RBI in leading an overpowering offensive performance in a 4-0 week by the No. 4 Bulldogs. She went 3-for-4 in both halves of a doubleheader sweep at Hinds (9-6, 12-0) with a double in both games and a grand slam in the second. Jones went 5-for-5 with a homer, a double and four RBI in a 14-10 win at Northwest Mississippi and singled in her first at-bat in a 16-7 win to extend a streak of seven consecutive at-bats with hits.

Sharisse Bridges, a freshman forward from Jackson, helped lead Gulf Coast to its first two MACCC South wins of the season by averaging 18.0 points and 7.5 rebounds. She had 14 points and six rebounds in a 62-47 win over Copiah-Lincoln, then narrowly missed a double-double with 22 points and nine boards in an 89-80 double-overtime win against Hinds. 

Krissy Georgieva, a sophomore from Sutton, England, won all six of her matches in a perfect 3-0 week for Gulf Coast. She dropped only seven games in three straight-sets wins at No. 1 singles, and mowed down the opposition in three No. 1 doubles matches.

Pedro Molero, a freshman from Maracaibo, Venezuela, won five of six matches for Gulf Coast last week. He and Clay Fudge won all three of their No. 2 doubles matches, including picking up the Bulldogs' only point against Wallace State. Molero went 2-1 at No. 2 singles to help Gulf Coast stay unbeaten in MACCC play. 

Drake Henderson, a freshman left-hander from Greene County, threw a complete game to beat No. 4 Northwest Mississippi 4-3. He struck out nine and walked two, scattering six hits.

A'Mya Stevens, a sophomore from Northeast Jones, came out of the bullpen twice to pick up two wins at Northwest Mississippi. She pitched 3.2 innings in a 14-10 win the opener, allowing two hits and a run. In the second, she went 4.1 innings and scattered five hits while allowing a run in a 16-7 win. Before she came into both games, Northwest had scored 15 total runs. 

Anthony Ratliff, a sophomore from Terry, averaged a double-double during a 1-1 week for Gulf Coast. He had 20 points and 14 rebounds in a 74-58 win over Copiah-Lincoln, and backed that up with 15 points and six rebounds in a 92-89 overtime loss at Hinds.
