Herrington, Henderson named Bulldogs of the Week

PERKINSTON — Hannah Herrington and Drake Henderson have been named Bulldogs of the Week for Feb. 22-28.

Herrington, a sophomore righty from Enterprise, sparkled in her first appearance in the circle this season. She hurled a three-hitter to beat Northeast Mississippi 10-2 in five innings, and neither run was earned.

Henderson, a freshman from Greene County, was dominant to pick up a 3-2 win at No. 11 Northeast Mississippi. He struck out 10 and walked just one while allowing but three hits. He also went 5-for-7 at the plate in a doubleheader against Copiah-Lincoln with two doubles, a homer and four RBI. 

Also nominated:

Rakeya Travis, a sophomore shortstop from Poplarville, batted .444 with a triple and five RBI in a 3-1 week. Travis had a three-run triple to help beat LSU-Eunice in the opening 8-7 win in Louisiana. She was walked four times in a doubleheader sweep of Northeast, helping inflate a .667 on-base percentage.

Ally Bowen, a freshman from Oxford, won all four of her matches last week for Gulf Coast. She teamed with Krissy Georgieva to claim a pair of No. 1 doubles victories and also had straight-set wins at No. 2 singles. 

Matt Wilkinson, a freshman from Madison Central, lapped the field on the way to winning the MGCCC Spring Invitational by nine shots. He helped the No. 2 Bulldogs to their second MACCC tournament victory in three outings.

Josh Cary, a freshman center fielder from Petal, packed a week's worth of stats into one game to help spark a sweep at No. 11 Northeast Mississippi, finishing the week batting .444 with four doubles, a triple and nine RBI. In a 13-10 win at Northeast, he went 4-for-5 with a double, a triple and six RBI. He had two doubles earlier in the week in a 9-7 win over Copiah-Lincoln.

Carr Thiam, a freshman from Tampa, Fla., shot the lights out for Gulf Coast in an 81-78 loss at Meridian, finishing with 24 points. He made 5-of-7 from the 3-point arc and had five rebounds and two steals.                    

Clay Fudge, a freshman from Madison Central, won all four of his matches last week for Gulf Coast. He and Pedro Molero won a pair of No. 2 doubles matches, and he got two straight-set wins at No. 4 singles.
