No. 15 Bulldogs lose twice

No. 15 Mississippi Gulf Coast dropped a pair of games Wednesday in its final tune-up for the MACCC season, falling 6-1 and 4-3 at Baton Rouge.

Emma Thomson (So., Sulphur, La./Sulphur) tripled in the first inning of the second game for a 1-0 lead. After falling behind 3-1, Brooklyn Mitchell (Fr., Gulfport/St. Patrick) had a two-run double in the fourth.

The Bears (13-9) scored an unearned run in the fifth to break the tie.

Thomson and Caroline Batson (Fr., Wiggins/Stone) had two hits each. Baleigh Tullos (Fr., Hurley/East Central) had a double.

The Bulldogs (17-6) managed only six hits in the opener, with Mitchell picking up the sole RBI.

Gulf Coast travels to Raymond on Friday to take on Hinds in the MACCC opener. First pitch in the doubleheader is at 3 p.m.
