Vines, Jackson sweep MACCC awards

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast swept the MACCC Baseball Player of the Week awards Tuesday.

James Vines was named conference Pitcher of the Week, and outfielder/designated hitter Dom Jackson was the Position Player of the Week. The awards are voted on by the conference's sports information directors.

Vines, a righty from Clinton, Miss., was dominant for the Bulldogs. He struck out 15 batters and walked only one in eight innings for Gulf Coast, which went 2-0 in his appearances. He got a win in a 3-2 victory over No. 5 Pearl River, striking out five in two innings of hitless relief. In a 4-3 victory over No. 22 Lansing, he struck out 10 in a seven-inning start. Vines had a 1.12 ERA for the week, giving up just seven hits.

Jackson, a sophomore from Gulf Breeze, Fla., slugged three home runs and drove in 10 during a 4-2 week for Gulf Coast. He had a three-run homer in the eighth to beat No. 12 Jones 5-4. Jackson also homered against Nunez and Lansing.

They join Samuel Marsh, who won the pitcher award two weeks ago, as conference award winners. Vines and Jackson are eligible for NJCAA Player of the Week honors.
