Mississippi Gulf Coast flexed its offensive muscles in one game and showed off one of its brilliant right arms in the other to win twice in Wednesday's split MACCC tripleheader.
Kaden Irving (So, Gautier/Gautier) led a prolific offense to a 15-8 win over Mississippi Delta before Samuel Marsh (So, Monroe, La./Neville) provided another stellar start with some strong defense behind him to win the nightcap 6-2 over host Hinds in Raymond.
Irving drove in five runs against Delta (2-9). He was 4-for-5 with a two-run homer, a two-run single and an RBI single. Dom Jackson (So, Gulf Breeze, Fla./Gulf Breeze) got his eighth home run of the season in the first inning and also doubled.
Landon Holliman (So, Hattiesburg/Sumrall) had two hits with a double. The Bulldogs pounded out 14 hits, including five doubles and the two home runs. They led 15-3 after five innings before Hinds put up some late runs.
Eli Waters (So, Petal/Petal) struck out seven in 4.1 innings. Tyler West (Fr, Vancleave/Vancleave) picked up the win with 1.2 innings of relief, allowing one run.
Against Hinds (4-13), Marsh struck out 11 in six innings, allowing three hits and three walks. The Bulldogs infield turned two inning-ending double plays behind him.
Griffin Wells (Fr, Pascagoula/Pascagoula) had three hits and pitched the last inning. Brandon Coakley had two doubles and two RBI, and Holliman doubled again and had two hits.
Irving also had two more hits, finishing the day 6-for-9.
Gulf Coast (15-7) plays another split doubleheader Friday in New Orleans. The Bulldogs play Triton College, from River Grove, Ill., at noon before playing host Delgado in the second game.
