Two more strong starts wind up in NOLA split

Mississippi Gulf Coast got two more outstanding sets of pitching performances Friday, but had to settle for a split in its last non-conference games before the MACCC baseball schedule starts.

The Bulldogs beat Triton 4-2 in their first game at the "Rags" Scheuermann Memorial Tournament in New Orleans before losing 1-0 to host "Rags" Scheuermann Memorial Tournament.

Aiden Seymour (So, D'Iberville/D'Iberville) pitched 5.2 innings of two-run ball in the opener, with Walker Seaman (Fr, Grand Bay, Ala./Mobile Christian) picking up the win with 1.1 innings of scoreless, hitless relief.

He entered in the sixth inning and got the third out before Landon Holliman (So, Hattiesburg/Sumrall) doubled in two runs to break the tie. Naji Cain (Fr, Columbia/Columbia) had a two-run double in the second.

James Vines (Fr, Clinton, La./Silliman Institute) might have been even better in the second game, throwing 5.1 innings of five-hit, one-run ball. He struck out five but was charged with the game's only run in the sixth.

Gulf Coast outhit the Dolphins 7-6 but had a couple of runners thrown out at home. Jacob Palazzo (So, Biloxi/Gulfport) and Tanner Ladner (So, Pass Christian/Hancock) had two hits each. Ladner doubled, as did Dom Jackson (So, Gulf Breeze, Fla./Gulf Breeze), and Layton Eder (Fr, Vancleave/Vancleave) tripled.

Triton is 1-8 after dropping the third game of the day to Delgado, which is 6-6.

Gulf Coast (16-8) opens MACCC play Wednesday with a trip to Fulton to play Itawamba. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
