Bulldogs beat Carey JV

After a surprising loss in its previous outing, Mississippi Gulf Coast beat up on the William Carey JV 71-48 in Hattiesburg. Mykah Brown (Fr., Petal/Petal) led the Bulldogs with a season-high 22.

"We were kind of back to where we were before last week," Gulf Coast coach Wendell Weathers said. "We were really solid on defense and rebounded the ball well. Our offense was OK. It needs to be better, but it's a work in progress."

The Bulldogs improved to 5-1 and will play again Thursday at Delgado. Tipoff in New Orleans is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Willie Logan (So., Brookhaven/Northwest Rankin) scored 12 for Gulf Coast, and Keevon Oney (So., Gulfport/Gulfport) had 10.

The Crusaders played zone defense exclusively, and it took the Bulldogs awhile to get going. They led 35-26 at halftime before pulling away.

Gulf Coast had lost 65-63 to Southern-Shreveport in the last game of the MGCCC Thanksgiving Classic on Nov. 20. The Bulldogs gave up the last 10 points of the game to lose for the first time.

"I think it was Thanksgiving and they were ready to go home, and they saw Shreveport get beat bad the day before," Weathers said. "We had a much more focused practice yesterday after we watched that film."
