Bulldogs face Jags in Clinton

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast will try to rebound from a disappointing MACJC Tournament by beating a team they played a disappointing game against in November.

The Bulldogs (19-5) will face Southern-Shreveport (10-11) in the first game of the NJCAA Region 23 Men's Basketball Tournament on Wednesday. Tipoff will be at 1 p.m.

"They've been, from what I understand, about .500 since Thanksgiving, maybe a little better," Gulf Coast coach Wendell Weathers said. "They play really hard. They're well-coached."

The Jaguars beat the Bulldogs 65-63 at the MGCCC Thanksgiving Classic, scoring the last 10 points.

"I don't think we played up to our potential the first time we played them," Weathers said. "I think we were more concerned about going home for Thanksgiving than about that game. Hopefully we'll have a little bit more motivation this week, be a little bit more focus and we'll be ready to play for 40 minutes."

Gulf Coast lost a big lead late in its first-round MACJC Tournament game to Northeast, falling 67-61 in Ellisville.

The game will be streamed at https://livestream.com/MGCCCBulldogs/events/8587599. The tournament is being played at the A.E. Wood Coliseum on the Mississippi College campus in Clinton.

The winner advances to play the winner of the Holmes-East Mississippi game, which will be played at 3 p.m. The semifinal will be at 5 p.m. Thursday.
