Oney signs with MC
PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast guard Keevon Oney has signed to continue his collegiate career with Division II Mississippi College.
"I feel like it's a good fit for me," he said. "It's a good college. I like their program and their campus. They have a good coaching staff."
The Choctaws, are coached by Don Lofton, who will be in his 16th season in Clinton. They play in the Gulf South Conference.
Oney, who played at Gulfport High School, started all 26 games for the Bulldogs as a sophomore. He averaged 11.3 points, 3.1 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 1.7 assists per game. For his two-year career, he shot 49.2 percent from the floor and 81.0 percent from the free-throw line.
"Keevon has brought a number of things to us and our basketball family," Gulf Coast coach Wendell Weathers said. "To start with, he's a great kid. He's an incredible athlete. He's super long, super athletic. He does things on the court you just can't teach. He has a knack for being around the ball, and he's good on the defensive end and he's good in the open floor with the basketball."
Oney heads to Mississippi College having grown as a player in his two years at Perk.
"I worked a lot with my teammates and coaches here," he said. "That really helped a lot. I just tried to stay dedicated."
