Bulldogs clamp down on Wildcats

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast scored the first 19 points of the second half and pulled away for an 81-47 win Saturday over Bishop State.

"I'm terrifically happy with where we are with the short amount of practice we've had," Gulf Coast coach Wendell Weathers said. "I'm glad it went that way."

Willie Logan (So., Brookhaven/Northwest Rankin) led the Bulldogs to their fifth straight win with 17 points. Mykah Brown (Fr., Petal/Petal) had 11, and Colby Cooke (Fr., Laurel/Laurel) added 10.

The Bulldogs (9-1) led 35-24 at halftime before holding the Wildcats (1-10) scoreless for the first 5:53 of the second half.

"The second half, we were a little bit more focused, a little bit more energetic, a little bit more business-oriented with our defense," Weathers said. "That, in turn, got our offense going."

Every player on Gulf Coast's roster scored Saturday.

"That's good because there's going to be games down the stretch where we won't be able to play everybody," Weathers said. "It's good to get in a situation where we can. This is a good group of kids. Every one of them works hard in practice. They all deserve to play, but it's hard to play 12, 14 guys every game."

The Bulldogs return to action Thursday when they resume MACJC South play at Copiah-Lincoln. Tipoff at Wesson is set for 7:30 p.m.
