Moorer, Simms power Bulldogs past Dolphins

DaJuan Moorer and Tafari Simms provided a potent 1-2 inside force for Mississippi Gulf Coast which beat up Delgado 90-71 on Thursday in Westwego, La.

"I told the guys I was more pleased with our offense tonight than our defense," Gulf Coast coach Wendell Weathers said. "That being said, Delgado has got some good players. From a defensive standpoint, we limited them to 39 percent from the field."

Moorer (So., Pensacola, Fla./Pensacola Catholic) scored 29 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for the Bulldogs (6-1).

"He had a big night," Weathers said. "He had a lot of rebounds, put-backs inside. We were able to attack them inside out."

Simms (Fr., Hamilton, Ontario/Lincoln Prep) had 20 points and seven rebounds

Dillyn Neely (Fr., Biloxi/Biloxi) scored a career-high 18 points, including 4-of-7 shooting from the 3-point line. He scored six straight for the Bulldogs to get them a 20-15 lead.

"These folks played us zone almost all night long," Weathers said. "If you play us zone and don't get to where he's at, he's capable of really lighting you up. He hit two big 3s in a row in the first half and got us separated."

Keevon Oney (So., Gulfport/Gulfport) had a double-double of his own with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Delgado falls to 2-6.

Gulf Coast returns to action Monday when East Central visits the newly remodeled Weathers-Wentzell Center. Tipoff of the first MACJC South game of the season is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
