Bulldogs blow out Crusaders

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast nearly broke the century mark and won by more than 30 points, but Bulldogs coach Jason Harrison saw plenty of things to fix.

Gulf Coast (2-0) trounced the William Carey JV 93-59 at the Weathers-Wentzell Center on Friday night.

"We played OK," Harrison said. "We were lax, especially at the beginning of the game. I think the guys looked at the score from last night's game against Pearl River and they figured they would lay down, not realizing when you get beat by that many you're going to come out and play better."

Aaron Harrison (Fr., West Philadelphia/Philadelphia, Pa.) scored all 18 of his points after halftime to lead Gulf Coast. D'yasmond Booker (Fr., Pascagoula/Pascagoula) had 16, Jayden McCorvey 14, Dillyn Neely 11 and Mykah Brown (So., Petal/Petal) 10.

The Crusaders had lost by 83 at Poplarville on Thursday, but they had seven 3-pointers in their 12 first-half field goals to keep things interesting for a while.

Gulf Coast had a 12-0 run that saw it lead 16-6 with 15:11 left in the first half, and went on to lead 54-26 at halftime. Neely scored all his points before the breaking, hitting three 3-pointers.

Harrison got 11 points in a 2:36 span midway through the second half as part of a 17-0 run to blow things open.

"I thought we could have had more," Harrison said. "We left some plays out there. We had some turnovers early and late, walks, dribbling off our foot. I don't think scoring is an issue for us. I think our defense and our defensive awareness is what I'm concerned about right now."

The Bulldogs travel Monday to take on Coastal Alabama-East. Tipoff in Brewton is set for 6:30 a.m.
