Bulldogs fall to 3rd place

Mississippi Gulf Coast dropped Thursday's game at Southwest 70-63, falling out of a second-place tie with the Bears.

Jayden McCorvey (Fr., Pascagoula/Pascagoula) led Gulf Coast with 17 points. Mykah Brown (So., Petal/Petal) scored 14, and Damien Wheaton (Fr., Bay Springs/Bay Springs) had 12.

Gulf Coast (14-4, 6-4 MACJC South) trailed by as many as 17 early in the second half. The Bulldogs got it down 66-58 with four minutes to play and got a series of stops, but couldn't convert on the offensive end.

The Bulldogs shot 10-for-22 from the free-throw line, including 7-of-15 in the second half.

Southwest improved to 13-6, 7-3.

Gulf Coast, which is now tied with Hinds for third in the division, finishes a stretch of six of seven games on the road. The Bulldogs will play three of the last four regular-season games at Perk, starting Monday. Tipoff against Meridian is at 5:30 p.m.
