Gulf Coast gets vital road win over Co-Lin

Mississippi Gulf Coast maintained pace for second in the MACJC South by surviving a rugged 58-56 overtime win at Copiah-Lincoln.

"The road is always tough. I told our guys it's hard to beat people twice," Bulldogs coach Jason Harrison said. "We got up early, but they kept fighting like I told them they would. We just made one more play than they did."

The Wolves hit a 3-pointer with 10 seconds left in regulation to force the extra period, then led early in the overtime before the Bulldogs made just enough free throws to pull out the win. Co-Lin (6-12, 1-8 MACJC) missed a pair of 3-point shots in the final 15 seconds that could have won the game.

Dillyn Neely (So., Biloxi/Biloxi) made five 3-pointers on his way to 19 points, the only Gulf Coast player in double-digits.

The Bulldogs (14-3, 6-3) remain tied with Southwest for second in the division. Jones dropped out of that tie after losing to Hinds.

Gulf Coast led by as many as 13 in the first half, but went into halftime up 30-26. The Wolves led by four in the second half, but the Bulldogs reversed a one-point deficit with 1:54 to play when Anthony Ratliff (Fr., Terry/Jackson) made a steal and got a transition layup.

Jayden McCorvey (Fr., Pascagoula/Pascagoula) got a putback with 50.9 seconds left after Gulf Coast narrowly missed a shot-clock violation to make it 51-48 before Co-Lin's 3-pointer forced the extra session.

The Bulldogs travel to Southwest on Thursday. Tipoff in Summit is set for 7:15 p.m.
