Smith named MACJC Defensive Player of the Week
PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast linebacker Mike Smith has been named MACJC Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in Goodman.
The freshman from Ridgeland made 10 tackles and had returned a fumble for a touchdown in a suffocating defensive performance by then-No. 5 Gulf Coast.
The Bulldogs held Holmes to 64 total yards in a 41-7 win at Goodman, and Smith picked up a loose ball and ran 64 yards for a score.
He is the first Gulf Coast player to receive a weekly award from the league, and he's now eligible for NJCAA weekly honors.
