No. 1 Bulldogs play at NWCC for MACJC crown

PERKINSTON — No. 1 Mississippi Gulf Coast will play at No. 10 Northwest next Saturday to decide the MACJC championship.

Kickoff at Bobby Franklin Field in Senatobia is set for 2 p.m.

It will be a battle of division champions. The Bulldogs (10-0) won the South, while the Rangers (8-2) won a four-way tiebreaker to claim the North No. 1 seed. The championship game location rotates by calendar year, with odd-numbered years played in the North.

Gulf Coast clinched its spot in the state title game by beating No. 13 East Mississippi 31-7 on Saturday at Perkinston. The Bulldogs are aiming for their 16 MACJC title and first since 2010.

Northwest is expected to move up in the NJCAA rankings after a Saturday filled with carnage in the top 10. Five teams lost, including Northwest's 24-17 takedown of No. 7 Jones. No. 3 Kilgore, No. 4 Hutchinson, No. 6 Butler and No. 8 Trinity Valley also lost.

No. 2 Lackawanna stayed perfect with a 59-0 win over the New Jersey Warriors. No. 5 Garden City beat Hutchinson 20-19.

The top two teams in the final regular-season poll will meet Dec. 5 in Pittsburg, Kansas, for the NJCAA national championship. Gulf Coast and Lackawanna are not only the only unbeaten teams in the country, but they are also the only ones without two losses.
