Bulldogs power past Pelicans

Mississippi Gulf Coast blasted Nunez on Sunday in its first two games away from Perkinston, winning 9-4 and 15-3 in Chalmette, La.

Adrian Byrd (Fr., Wiggins/Stone) dominated on the mound in the first game, striking out seven and walking just one. He allowed four hits and only two earned runs in 6.1 innings.

Sean Smith (So., Pascagoula/Pascagoula) homered in both games and drove in six runs. DJ Walker (So., Brandon/Brandon) also homered in the first game.

Adam May (So., Magee/Magee) pitched 2.1 innings of one-hit ball in the second game after Gulf Coast had exploded for nine runs in the first. Charlie Keller (Fr., Mobile, Ala./Mobile Christian) had two hits, including a double, and three RBI. Sam Mansell (So., Laurel/Northeast Jones) doubled and had three hits.

Gulf Coast (4-4) will play a three-way day Tuesday at Raymond, taking on host hinds at noon before facing Itawamba at 3 p.m. The games will not count toward MACCC standings.
