Smith leads 4 Bulldogs on All-MACCC team

PERKINSTON — Sean Smith swung a big bat for Mississippi Gulf Coast in the 2023 baseball season, and the conference's coaches have recognized him for his plate prowess.

He was voted to his second straight All-MACCC Baseball Team, the conference said Tuesday. Smith was named to the First Team, and third baseman Charlie Keller, first baseman/designated hitter DJ Walker and shortstop Marc Stephens earned honorable mention honors.

Smith, a sophomore outfielder from Pascagoula, finished second in the MACCC with 15 home runs. He was ninth in hitting (.392) and third in slugging (.759). 

As a freshman, he earned a spot on the Second Team.

Keller, a freshman from Mobile, Ala., was among the nation's home run leaders when he went down with a season-ending injury. He led the MACCC with 16 homers and an .806 slugging percentage. He batted .311 with 47 RBI. 

Walker, a sophomore from Brandon, batted .338 with five home runs and 18 RBI. He had a .465 on-base percentage.

Stephens, a freshman from Orange Beach, Ala., batted .340 with five home runs and 35 RBI. He got on base better than 44 percent of the time.
