Bulldogs lose twice at Ellisville

Mississippi Gulf Coast played its second MACCC Three-Way Day in Ellisville on Wednesday, this one with a rivalry theme.

The Bulldogs lost the opener 7-3 to Jones before falling 3-2 to archrival Pearl River in the second. PRCC is ranked No. 1 in the country, and Jones is receiving votes in the NJCAA Division II poll.

None of the games played Wednesday counted toward conference standings.

Gulf Coast took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first against Pearl River. Charlie Keller (Fr., Mobile, Ala./Mobile Christian) singled in a run, and Jayden Mark (Fr., Petal/Petal), who'd singled earlier in the inning, scored on a wild pitch.

The Wildcats tied it up with a two-run homer in the bottom of the inning and got a solo shot in the fifth.

Mark homered for Gulf Coast in the first game, his third of the season. Kade Carpenter (So., Vancleave/Vancleave) also had a straight steal of home.

Gulf Coast is now 6-8. The Bulldogs will be at home Saturday when Lansing visits from Michigan. First pitch in the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. The games will be streamed at https://mgcccbulldogs.com/watch.
