Baseball entertains MACCC-leading Jones

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast has won four of its last six games to move into a fifth-place tie in the MACCC baseball standings.

The Bulldogs will try to improve that Wednesday when No. 9 Jones visits. The MACCC leaders will be at Ken "Curly" Farris Field for a doubleheader that starts at 3 p.m.

Last Time Out

  • MGCCC rebounded from a tight Game 1 loss to split at Holmes on Saturday. The Bulldogs lost 9-8 before winning 15-6.
  • Jones swept Coahoma 7-2 and 13-1 at Ellisville on Saturday.

On March 1, Jones beat Gulf Coast 7-3 in Ellisville.

  • Gulf Coast is fourth in the NJCAA with 39 home runs and ninth in slugging (.534).
  • Gulf Coast leads the MACCC with 39 home runs. The Bulldogs are third in batting (.326), fourth in on-base percentage (.444) and second in slugging (.534).
  • Charlie Keller (Fr., Mobile, Ala./Mobile Christian) leads the NJCAA in home runs (15) and is second in RBI (44). He's 12th in slugging (.848). Keller leads the MACCC in home runs, RBI and slugging.
  • Sean Smith (So., Pascagoula/Pascagoula) is sixth in the NJCAA in home runs (10) and 15th in slugging (.835). He's second in the MACCC in home runs, fourth in batting (.433) and second in slugging.
