Stephens wins MACCC Player of the Week

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast shortstop Marc Stephens has slugged himself to an award.

The freshman shortstop cranked a pair of grand slams last week and was voted MACCC Player of the Week by the conference's sports information directors.

The Orange Beach, Ala., product batted .462 last week and hit safely in all four games. He hit his first grand slam in Game 1 against Hinds.

His second grand slam came with two outs and the Bulldogs down by two in the ninth inning against Northwest Mississippi, giving Gulf Coast an 8-6 win.

Stephens also walked four times and triple-slashed .462/.611/.923.

He is now eligible for the NJCAA weekly award, which will be announced Wednesday.
