Bulldogs split with Coahoma

PERKINSTON — A banged-up Mississippi Gulf Coast roster split with Coahoma on Thursday. The Bulldogs won the opener 10-8 at Ken "Curly" Farris Field but fell 3-1 in the nightcap.

Gulf Coast needed an eighth-inning rally in the first game to overcome an 8-7 deficit. After one-out walks to Sean Smith (So., Pascagoula/Pascagoula) and DJ Walker (So., Brandon/Brandon), Jayden Mark (Fr., Petal/Petal) tied it up with a single.

Ty Mancha (Fr., Albuquerque, N.M./Mobile Christian) followed with a pinch-hit single for another run, and Amiri Williams (Fr., Long Beach/Long Beach) singled in the last run.

JC Stogner (So., Sumrall/Sumrall) got the last four outs to pick up the win.

Smith and Charlie Olsen (Fr., Gulfport/Gulfport) had three hits with a double. Mark and Kannon Varnado (Fr., Gulfport/Harrison Central) had two hits and a double, with Mark scoring four times.

Mark and Marc Stephens had two hits in the second game. Mark drove in the only Bulldogs run with a double.

Gulf Coast is now 16-20, 9-9 MACCC. Coahoma is 4-30, 1-17.

The Bulldogs travel to Pearl River on Wednesday. First pitch in Poplarville will be at 3 p.m.
