Bulldogs lose twice to No. 4 PRCC

Mississippi Gulf Coast lost twice to No. 4 Pearl River on Tuesday in Poplarville. The Bulldogs lost the opener 5-1 and the rain-interrupted nightcap 3-1.

Gulf Coast trailed the first game 3-0 on three solo home runs before Marc Stephens (Fr., Orange Beach, Ala./Gulf Shores) hit a ground ball that resulted in an error and allowed a run to score.

In the second game, DJ Walker (So., Brandon/Brandon) had two hits, including a double. Jayden Mark (Fr., Petal/Petal) singled to lead off the fourth and later scored on a wild pitch to cut the Gulf Coast deficit to 2-1. The Bulldogs wouldn't get closer.

Blake King (Fr., Petal/Petal) took the loss in Game 2, allowing just four hits and two earned runs in four innings. He struck out four. Adrian Byrd (Fr., Wiggins/Stone) pitched two innings of shutout relief.

There was a 17-minute delay in the sixth inning.

Gulf Coast is now 16-22, 9-11 MACCC. Pearl River is 34-8, 15-5.

The Bulldogs have an open date this weekend. They'll be back in action Tuesday when Hinds visits Ken "Curly" Farris Field. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
