Bulldogs lose to Calhoun at Poplarville

Mississippi Gulf Coast stumbled Friday in the Pearl River Classic, losing 67-65 to Calhoun in Poplarville.

The Bulldogs (3-1) opened a big lead to start the game, scoring the first 13 points. They were up 34-21 at halftime before the Warhawks (3-0) rallied.

Calhoun took a 45-44 lead at the 11:05 mark of the second half, and the Bulldogs trailed 65-62 with a minute to play. Jabbari Barry (So., Lake Charles, La./Barbe) made three free throws, and the Gulf Coast deficit was down to two with 14.8 seconds left.

The Warhawks missed a free throw, and the Bulldogs struggled to gain possession of the rebound. It finally went off a Calhoun player and out of bounds with 4.9 seconds left, but the Bulldogs couldn't get a shot off before the buzzer.

Barry led the Bulldogs with 19 points, including shooting 3-for-7 from 3-point land. Kaue Kalinowski (So., Curitiba, Brazil/Divine Savior) had 12, and Thomas Tangle (So., Standing Pine/Choctaw Central) had 11. Eight different Bulldogs scored.
