Bulldogs blow out Aces
PERKINSTON — Aujaylen Barron scored 33 points to lead Mississippi Gulf Coast to an easy 125-76 win over Baton Rouge Post-Grad on Thursday at Dantzler Arena.
He got 29 of them in the second half, leading four Bulldogs in double-digits.
"That's the guy we recruited," Gulf Coast coach Owen Miller said. "I'm not saying he's going to get 30 every night, but he can really shoot and create his own shot. He was really in control of the game. I think that's going to give him a lot of confidence."
The Bulldogs improved to 6-2. They stretched out a 61-26 lead at halftime after shooting 17-of-18 from the free-throw line.
Kaue Kalinowski (So., Curitiba, Brazil/Divine Savior) had 18 points before sitting with the starters the entire second half. Matthew Hinton (Fr., Atlanta, Ga./Dutchtown) had 17 points, and Quinton Greer (Fr., Carthage/Leake Central) had all 14 of his points after halftime.
"We needed that, a lot of guys playing, especially after a tough loss on Tuesday," Miller said. "We had a lot of freshmen do a lot of good things, which is big."
The Bulldogs made 25 of 35 shots from the field in the second half, including 6-of-9 from behind the arc. They finished shooting 52.9 percent from the floor and 43.5 percent from deep.
Gulf Coast plays one last game before Thanksgiving. The Bulldogs host East Central in a non-conference matchup, with tipoff at Perk set for 2 p.m.
