Jones hands MGCCC its 1st loss

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast suffered its first women's tennis loss of 2021 on Saturday at the MGCCC Tennis Complex. The Bulldogs lost 6-3.

"We didn't play our best today," Gulf Coast coach Sam Blackburn said. "There were some close matches where just a few points could have made all the difference. But I think we'll learn a lot about our games and come out next week ready to play again."

Kasey Kent (Fr., Ridgeland/Ridgeland) and Tia Topps (So., Grenada/Grenada) dropped only two games in winning their No. 3 doubles match, and Topps won in straight sets at No. 6 singles.

Ally Bowen (Fr., Oxford/Lafayette County) claimed the No. 2 singles point in straight sets.

Gulf Coast is now 5-1 overall, 4-1 in the MACCC. Jones won its sixth straight match to start the season and is first in the conference.

The Bulldogs are back on the Perk courts Monday when Itawamba visits. First serves are scheduled for 1 p.m.
