No. 13 MGCCC blasts No. 20 ECCC

PERKINSTON — Gulf Coast, which earned the 13th spot in the first Oracle/ITA NJCAA Rankings, beat No. 20 East Central at the MGCCC Tennis Complex on Friday, the day they rankings were released.

The Bulldogs (12-1, 9-1 MACCC) finished a regular-season sweep of the Warriors, having beaten ECCC 9-0 at Decatur in February.

The Bulldogs are one spot behind Jones in the rankings, with Hinds (16th), Meridian (17th) and Co-Lin (19th) also in the poll from the MACCC.

Kasey Kent (Fr., Ridgeland/Ridgeland) battled to a tough three-set victory in No. 3 singles, and Krissy Georgieva (So., Epsom and Ewell High School/Sutton, England), Kaylen Bond (So., Stone/Perkinston), Anna Stringer (So., Stone/Wiggins) and Tia Topps (So., Grenada/Grenada) lost only four games between them in singles victories.

After taking a week off for Spring Break, Gulf Coast returns to action March 24 when Itawamba visits Perkinston.
