Golf plays strong at Delta State

CLEVELAND, MS---Gulf Coast set scoring records 275-269 the first two rounds of the DSU Fall Invitational played at the par-72 Cleveland Country Club in Cleveland, MS, but host Delta State University fired a tournament and school record 20-under 268 in the 3rd round led by Chad Cupples' 62 to erase a 13-shot lead held by Gulf Coast.  Delta State's 39-under 825 total is a tournament record and was 10 shots better than MGCCC 835.  Central Alabama was 3rd at 852, followed by DSUG 860, University of Arkansas-Monticello 867, Mississippi College 886, and East MS 888. 

Delta State's Reed Lindsey took Medalist honors with a 70-65-65--200 total, followed by Chad Cupples (DSU) 71-68-62--201, Grant Motter (MGCCC) 69-64-72 and John Clare (CACC) 66-72-67--205, and Hunter Harmon (EMCC) 70-66-71--207.  All were named to the All-Tournament Team.  Fant Carpenter and Grant Motter set school single-round records with 8-under 64's.  Other MGCCC scores included Phillip Hickam 68-67-78 and Danny De Los Santos 76-71-66--213, George Kawell 74-67-75--216 and Fant Carpenter 64-73-82--219.  MGCCC will play next at the MGCCC Fall Invitational at Windance Country Club in Gulfport, MS October 6-7.
