Gulf Coast finishes second in golf tourney

Mississippi Gulf Coast rallied to finish second in the third MACJC golf event of the season at Dancing Rabbit Golf Club in Philadelphia, Miss.

The Bulldogs were led by Grant Motter, whose even-par 144 was good for second place, a stroke behind Northeast Mississippi's Alex Tull. George Kawell, playing as an individual, was three shots off the pace, tied for third.

Gulf Coast entered the final day tied for fourth place, moved past Copiah-Lincoln and Northwest by shaving 10 shots off their first-round total. The Bulldogs finished at 42-over. Meridian, the host school, got around the Azalea Course in 17-over.

"We just didn't have our 'A' game this week," Gulf Coast coach Tommy Snell said. "We know we're capable of playing better. Hats off to Meridian for playing well both days.

"I'm really proud of the two freshmen Motter and Kawell for leading the team.  Great stuff!"
