Weathersby wins NCAA tournament
Former Gulf Coast golfer Hayes Weathersby won his first NCAA tournament at the Samford Intercollegiate, which finished Tuesday in Hoover, Ala.
Weathersby beat Southern Miss teammate Casey Fernandez on the first playoff hole after they tied a 2-under 142 on the 6,773-yard Hoover Country Club course. Weathersby, a Poplarville native, charged back Tuesday with a 68 to make the playoff.
The duo led USM to the team title, beating the 10-team field with a 1-under 575, 16 better than Lipscomb and 24 ahead of Arkansas-Little Rock.
