Golf Team 7th at MGCCC Invitational

GULFPORT---The Mississippi Gulf Coast Golf Team shot 300 in the 1st Round of the MGCCC Fall Invitational at the 6659-yard Windance Country Club and finds itself in 7th place, 10 shots behind co-leaders Spring Hill College and Central Alabama Community College (290).  Wallace State (AL) shot 291 good enough for 3rd, followed by Darton (GA) 294, University of Mobile 296, MGCCC 300, Rend Lake (IL) 304, Copiah-Lincoln 308, Faulkner State 311, East Central CC 312, Andrew 314, East Mississippi 317 and Loyola New Orleans 324.  
Sheldon Statkewicz fired a 6-under 66 to lead all individuals.  MGCCC's Danny De Los Santos and four other golfers shot 2-under 70's.  "Danny really played well today and could have challenged the leader had he made a few more putts," said Coach Snell.  "We just have to stay patient and play within ourselves if we want to catch the leaders.  These are really good teams in front of us, so we'll have to play well," he added.  The final round is scheduled for an 8:00 AM shotgun start Tuesday.
