Gulf Coast leads after first round

Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College's golf team leads by seven shots Saturday after the first round of the second MACJC event of the season at Eagle Ridge Golf Course at Hinds Community College in Raymond. The Bulldogs' Grant Motter had the round's low score, an even-par 72.

Teammate George Kawell is two strokes back in third place, with all five MGCCC golfers in the top 16.

East Central's Andrew Joiner is sandwiched between Motter and Kawell.

Gulf Coast shot 299 and leads by seven shots over Meridian. Co-Lin is third (309), followed by East Central (314), East Mississippi (316), Hinds and Northeast (323), Northwest (329), Itawamba (340) and Jones (351). 

The second round is set for Sunday at Wolf Hollow Golf Club in Wesson. Play starts at 9 a.m.

MGCCC scores: Grant Motter, 72, 1st; George Kawell, 74, 3rd; Danny De Los Santos, 76, T-8th; Phillip Hickam, 77, T-13; Conner Entriken, 77, T-13. Individuals: Bryce Jackson, 75, T-4; Fant Carpenter, 81, T-29.
