Gulf Coast wins third MACJC event of season

Mississippi Gulf Coast had five golfers in the top 11 finishers at the fourth MACJC event of the season to claim another team title, with Michael Hendrickson's 2-over 146 good for third.

 

Copiah-Lincoln's Jacob Ross beat Northeast Mississippi's Alex Tull on the second playoff hole for medalist honors at 3-under 141. Tuesday's second round was played at Back Acres Country Club in Olive Branch.

 

Connor Crabbe, playing as an individual, tied for fifth with teammate Phillip Hickam at 4-over 148. Hunter Holcomb was another shot back in eighth and Tyler Schingle tied for ninth at 7-over

 

Crabbe, Hickam and Holcomb were playing as individuals. Wilkinson, Crabbe and Hickam were named to the All-Tournament team.

 

Gulf Coast came into Tuesday in second, but shot a plus-31 607 won by nine strokes over Co-Lin. Hinds and East Central were another three shots back, followed by Northeast and first-round leader and host Northwest one more back in the eight-team field.

 

The Bulldogs have won three of four MACJC events this year, finishing second in the other. There is one more regular-season tournament, to be played at Briarwood Country Club in Meridian beginning April 13.

 

The conference championship will be April 18-19 at Lion Hills Country Club in Columbus.
