Weathersby named C-USA Golfer of the Week

Former Gulf Coast standout Hayes Weathersby defeated teammate Casey Fernandez in the first hole of a playoff to earn medalist honors at the rain-shortened Samford Intercollegiate at the Hoover Country Club (7,001 yards, par 72).

The junior fired rounds of 74-68 to finish 2-under 142 to help Southern Miss to the tournament title, its first since 2013. Weathersby set a career-low round with a second-round 68, which also marked his first career round in the 60s.

The Poplarville native's 36-hole score of 142 was also a career best. Weathersby was a tournament-best 8-under on par fives. He also buried eight birdies and was the only golfer in the tournament with two eagles.

This is Weathersby's first C-USA Golfer of the Week honor of the season and of his career.
