Motter wins, Bulldogs finish second in final regular-season tourney

Mississippi Gulf Coast's golf team closed out its regular season Tuesday with a second-place finish in the fifth MACJC event at Briarwood County Club in Meridian, and Grant Motter won his third individual title.

Motter fired a second-round 68 to finish at 4-under 140, one shot ahead of Meridian's Grant Renegar and two ahead of first-round leader Ryan Desormeaux of Copiah-Lincoln.

Gulf Coast had five golfers in the top 11. George Kawell finished in a fourth-place tie at one-over. Conner Entriken shot two-over to finished tied for seventh, Danny De Los Santos and Phillip Hickam tied for ninth at four-over.

Host Meridian, which shot five-over 581, claimed the team title by six shots over the Bulldogs. Co-Lin was another six shots back in third in the nine-team field.

The MACJC state championship will be played Saturday and Sunday at Lion Hills Country Club in Columbus. Gulf Coast won three of five MACJC events this season, finishing second in the other two.
