Gulf Coast golf team places third at Faulkner Invitational

Phillip Hickam led Gulf Coast to a third-place finish at the Elizabeth Kling Memorial Invitational hosted by Faulkner State at Rock Creek Golf Club in Fairhope, Ala., over the weekend.

Hickam shot an 8-over 152 to finish 10 shots back of medalist Scott Bryan of Central Alabama CC. Bryan fired a second-round 67 to finish 2-under for the tournament.

Danny De Los Santos had the Bulldogs' best round, shooting 73 Sunday. He was eight shots better than his opening round, and all MGCCC golfers matched or lowered their scores as the team climbed from fifth to third on the final day. The Bulldogs shaved 18 shots off their opening-round score, finishing 15 back of Central Alabama. The University of Mobile was second, seven off the pace.

MGCCC returns to MACJC play at Eagle Ridge and Wolf Hollow on Feb. 28 and March 1.
