MGCCC loses nail-biter in OT

PERKINSTON — Nothing was decided in the first 90 minutes of play between Mississippi Gulf Coast and LSU Eunice. In fact, no goal was scored, but the golden goal came quickly in the first overtime, giving the Bengals a 1-0 victory at Bary Thrash Field.

"It was back-and-forth. It could have gone either way," Gulf Coast coach Chris Handy said. "In the end, I think the result was fair. I think they had the better chances. But there's a lot we can learn from this game, a lot more than from the previous one."

Noah Wagner slashed in behind the Bulldogs wall on a free kick less than two minutes into overtime, and his shot evaded Isaiah Gore (Fr., Laurel/Laurel). He got a piece of the shot, like he did everything else LSU-E (2-0) attempted, but not enough to push it wide.

Gulf Coast's best chance came in the 72nd minute when a ball bounced over the LSU-E defenders. Deon Travis (Fr., Madison Central/Madison) got to it, but the onrushing keeper forced him to chip just over the bar.

"Now we're in conference play," Handy said. "We've got some things we can clean up, and we'll go from there."

The Bulldogs (1-1) play at Jones on Friday. Kickoff in Ellisville is set for 7 p.m.
