Bulldogs beat Indians

Mississippi Gulf Coast handed Itawamba its first loss of the season Saturday, when the Bulldogs beat the Indians 3-1 in Fulton.

Christian Inchima (Fr., St. Edmond Campion/Brampton Ontario) scored twice, and Cisco Thomas (So., Meadowvale Secondary/Mississauga, Ontario) was dangerous all afternoon and scored the middle goal that broke a tie.

"Itawamba was undefeated," Gulf Coast Chris Handy said. "No one has done what we just did, so we'll take it and move on."

The Indians (6-1) scored midway through the first half, but Inchima converted a penalty won by James Redmond (Fr., Oberschule Roter Sand/Bremen, Germany) with 18 minutes left in the first half.

Thomas dribbled through the Itawamba defense to put the Bulldogs up 2-1 four minutes into the second half.

"Cisco played with more urgency," Handy said. "He really gave them problems early. All they could really do was foul him. He was probably the main focus of the offensive attention, and he did a better job creating offensive chances."

Deon Travis (Fr., Madison Central/Madison) quickly took a free kick with three minutes to play, got the ball to Thomas who fed Inchima to ice it.

"We played OK," Handy said. "It was kind of a hectic game because it was extremely hot. The conditions were definitively a challenge, but everybody played. We'll take it."

Gulf Coast (4-3) plays at Northwest on Sunday. The Bulldogs kick off at Senatobia at 3 p.m.
