MGCCC wins second straight

Christian Inchima scored twice for the second straight day, and Mississippi Gulf Coast put together its first consecutive wins by shutting out Northwest 4-0 on Sunday.

"We felt very inconsistent throughout most of the year," Bulldogs coach Chris Handy said. "Not being able to put together back-to-back performances is disturbing, to say the least. To come up here and get two good results and start to put together a decent season here is important. This next stretch before we start division games is important to make sure we're sharp. The next three games are important."

Inchima (Fr., St. Edmond Campion/Brampton, Ontario) scored Gulf Coast's final two goals of the day, converting assists from Luke Mills and Francisco Garcia. He has scored in four straight and also set up the opener from Griffin Bush (So., Pearl/Pearl) in the 28th minute.

"He's showing the ability to score consistently, which is big for us," Handy said. "We need somebody up there to be a presence, so that was positive."

Cisco Thomas (So., Meadowvale Secondary/Mississauga, Ontario) scored early in the second half, extending his goal-scoring streak to two.

Isaiah Gore (Fr., Laurel/Laurel) and Zach Seymour (Fr., St. Patrick/Gulfport) combined to stop all eight Rangers shots on goals to record the shutout.

"I felt like we dominated the game," Handy said. "We played well for the most part. I wish we'd come out a little more aggressive to goal early. That's a game we should have been in control of sooner than we were. In the end, we came out in the second half determined and they got it done."

Northwest falls to 1-6.

Gulf Coast (5-3) plays a pair of home games this week, entertaining Holmes on Wednesday and Hinds on Friday. Kickoff in both games is schedule for 7 p.m.
