Bulldogs blow out Holmes

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast extended its win streak to three by thrashing Holmes 6-0 Wednesday, with Cisco Thomas assisting on the first three goals.

Christian Inchima (Fr., St. Edmond Campion/Brampton Ontario) had two goals and an assist for the Bulldogs (6-3).

Despite the margin of victory, Gulf Coast was concerned about goals it left on the field.

"We were getting into spots, doing what we work on in practice, running our plays, getting through, combining well," Thomas said. "It's just we couldn't finish. The score could have been double."

Brandon Marquez (Fr., Petal/Petal) scored less than a minute into play, then Thomas (So., Meadowvale Secondary/Mississauga, Ontario) and Inchima teamed up with nifty interplay before a long-range blast for Inchima's first in the eighth minute.

He scored again in the 67th minute, and the Bulldogs began to pull away from Holmes (1-6-1). James Redmond (Fr., Oberschule Roter Sand/Bremen, Germany) scored four minutes later, with Inchima assisting. Deon Travis (Fr., Madison Central/Madison) and Abraham Mayen (Fr., DeSoto Central/Southaven) finished things off with goals in the final 14 minutes.

"I think we created a lot of opportunities, especially in that first half where we just didn't execute in front of goal," Gulf Coast coach Chris Handy said. "We always keep our eyes on division games, and we know that the chances are few and far between in those games. If we don't get better at finishing chances we create, we keep opponents in games they have no business being in."

Inchima extended his goal-scoring streak to five games. Thomas has points in his last three games, including two goals and four assists.

"It's a good night for him," Handy said. "It's important for him to be able to produce. For him to be producing the last couple of games like he has, it's big for him, big for the team and big for his future."
