No. 19 Bulldogs tie Southwest

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast debuted at No. 19 in this week's NJCAA Division II Men's Soccer Poll earlier Tuesday, but the Bulldogs had to settle for a scoreless tie against Southwest Mississippi.

"There's a little frustration," Gulf Coast coach Chris Handy said. "I thought we had some clear, good chances to get a goal on the board. From that angle, it's frustrating, but they're improved."

The Bears (3-0-1) were receiving votes in the poll. Gulf Coast is now 1-1-2. The Bulldogs had won eight straight dating back to 2018.

The Bulldogs had an opportunity in the 17th minute, but couldn't get it past the keeper with a couple chances. In the final five minutes, a tempting cross from Guy Mizrachi (Fr., Haifa, Israel/Ironi Nesher) along the ground inside the 6-yard box was just a few inches in front of a sliding teammate.

Gulf Coast has a third-straight home match Friday when East Central visits. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., and the game will be streamed at https://mgcccbulldogs.com/watch.

"It's a second straight shutout, so we'll take that," Handy said. "We'll get back to work and see about getting some more goals."
