No. 12 Gulf Coast gets time off before postseason starts
PERKINSTON — The No. 12 Mississippi Gulf Coast men's soccer team will get the weekend off after winning the MACCC championship.
Thanks to the title, they get a berth in the semifinals of the NJCAA Gulf South District Tournament. The other six teams will start playing this weekend, with play scheduled for Friday and Saturday.
No. 5 East Central travels to No. 4 Itawamba, No. 6 Southwest Mississippi heads to No. 3 Pearl River, and No. 7 Copiah-Lincoln plays at No. 2 Jones.
Gulf Coast will get the lowest-seeded team that survives those quarterfinals in a semifinal on Nov. 3. The final four will be played at Ellisville because the Jones women won the MACCC title.
The championship, which awards an automatic berth in the NJCAA Division II Tournament in Tucson, Ariz., will be played Nov. 5. Eight district champions receive a bid, with four at-large berths available.
