No. 17 Bulldogs down Co-Lin 4-1

PERKINSTON — Having moved up to No. 17 in the NJCAA poll the day before, Mississippi Gulf Coast won its second straight MACCC game to open the conference schedule Tuesday night. The Bulldogs got maximum points and maximum goal difference by beating Copiah-Lincoln 4-1.

Four different Gulf Coast players scored, a sign of the team's depth.

"That was the message at halftime," Bulldogs coach Chris Handy said. "The strength of our team is our team. Any time we get away from being unselfish and moving the ball, our level drops. When we share it, and move it, and be unselfish, we're a really good team."

The Bulldogs (4-1-2, 2-0 MACCC) won their third straight and are 4-0-1 in their last five games. Co-Lin falls to 0-4-2, 0-2.

Mills Sheridan (Fr., Brandon/Northwest Rankin) scored his second in three games in the 33rd minute, converting a pass into the box from Kade Smith (Fr., London, England/Whitmore). Three minutes later, Koen Gemeri (Fr., Gold Coast, Australia/Southport School) cushioned a header onto the foot of Victor Moerck (Fr., Vaerloese, Denmark/Lyngby Handelsgymnasium). It was his sixth goal.

The prettiest goal of the night came off the left foot of Jeongbin Kim (Fr., Paju, Korea/Anyang Technical). He curled a shot from the top corner of the box across goal into the upper 90 for his first of the season.

Donovan Allen (Fr., Byram/Terry) scored two minutes later in the 75th, heading off a scramble in front.

"It wasn't our sharpest performance, but we continue to score goals," Handy said. "We've got to make sure that we keep our urgency, and we keep our fight. I thought we were a little bit down tonight compared to some of the past games."

Gulf Coast entertains Meridian on Friday. Kickoff at Bary Thrash Field is set for 7 p.m., with the stream at https://mgcccbulldogs.com/watch.
