Ruiz Ospina grabs another MACCC award

PERKINSTON — David Ruiz Ospina has been a stalwart between the posts for No. 12 Mississippi Gulf Coast this season, and two more stellar performances earned him another award.

The freshman from Manizales, Colombia, picked up two more wins last week, which has led the conference sports information directors naming him MACCC Keeper of the Week on Tuesday for the second time this season.

He picked up his seventh shutout of the season, second most in the NJCAA, in blanking Itawamba 1-0. He had a crucial save in a 3-2 win at Hinds that moved Gulf Coast within one win of a second MACCC title in two seasons.

The Bulldogs will try to pick up that win Tuesday night when the Bulldogs play at Southwest Mississippi. Kickoff in Summit is set for 7 p.m., and the game will be streamed at https://go.smccbears.tv/.

Gulf Coast men's soccer players have won league awards five times this season. Forwards Victor Moerck and Kade Smith earned Player of the Week plaudits.

Ruiz Ospina is now eligible to win the NJCAA award, which will be handed out Wednesday. He won it once already this season.
